The Stearns County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) will be accepting 2022 tree and shrub orders online starting November 1st for spring delivery.
Each year the Stearns County SWCD offers trees and shrubs for purchase to residents in Stearns County and non-residents. The program was developed to provide landowners with an affordable and convenient way to purchase trees and shrubs for conservation practices such as windbreaks, shelterbelts, living snow fences, and wildlife habitat. This is also a low-cost way to simply add color and beauty to your property or replace trees that have been damaged.
To make a purchase or to see the full list of trees and shrubs available, visit the Stearns County SWCD web page at www.StearnsCountySWCD.net/shop. Tree sales will be open until product is sold out. In order to guarantee the specie selections and quantities, full payment is required at the time of purchase.
The District is offering 27 different species of conifers, deciduous trees, and shrubs on a first-come, first-served basis. The trees are bare-root stock, typically 5”-24” in size depending on species and are sold in bundles of 25. There is one new variety being offered this year: Black Walnut. In addition to trees and shrubs, there are Weed Suppressant Mats (WSM) available for purchase. The WSM is a soft, biodegradable cover made from recycled wood that inhibits weed competition around your new tree.
Customers who have purchased trees will be notified in advance via postcard and email for details in Spring 2022. The pick-up date will take place at Rockville County Park, 11503 Glacier Road, Rockville, MN, 56301. Tree pick-up is from 7:30AM-6:00PM on either the last Friday in April or the first Friday in May, depending on tree arrival and weather. Trees that are not picked up during the scheduled pick-up day, will be subject to a $20 per-day storage fee. Since the trees are of perishable nature, the Stearns County SWCD is not responsible for the condition after pick-up, and customers are responsible for appropriate storage and planting of all stock. Planting stock not surviving are not replaced by the Stearns County SWCD.
If trees are being planted on land that is enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) or Reinvest in Minnesota (RIM), the sale may be exempt from sales tax. Please contact the Stearns County SWCD to see if you are eligible or to complete and sign a ST3 form.
