Register now for the “Cover Crop Field Day: Plant It, Grow It, Profit” near Spring Hill on Thursday, August 24. Check-in will start at 8:30AM, with the field day starting at 9:00AM. Pre-register by Wednesday, August 16 to ensure your free lunch at www.StearnsCountySWCD.net/covercropday. Later registrations and walk-ins are still welcome, but lunch is not guaranteed.
This field day is for landowners, farmers, and anyone who is interested in learning more about cover crops and soil health, whether or not you have experience implementing soil health related conservation practices. Throughout the day, you will hear from industry experts on economics, planting green, manure management in cover crops, managing compaction and tillage featuring a soils pit, and exploring and examining infiltration rates on various soil types with different tillage techniques.
During the farmer panel, hear from experienced local farmers who have transitioned from conventional to conservation practices. Our knowledgeable speakers will share their experiences and best practices. Additionally, live equipment demonstrations for conservation use will be taking place in the afternoon. The line of equipment includes: a 3-way air seeder, drone, low disturbance manure injector, vertical tillage unit, strip-tillers, no-till corn planter, and no-till drill.
Also, learn more about the MN Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program (MAWQCP) and how you can become certified for your efforts on working towards clean water.
Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are approved – Nutrient Management: 1; Crop Management: 0.5; Professional Development: 0.5; and Soil & Water Management: 1.
