This workshop teaches those involved in taking care of parking lots and sidewalks. This training offers information about best practices for managing winter parking lots and sidewalks:

  • How to gauge weather conditions

  • Best practices for storing materials

  • Using sustainable practices

  • De-icing & anti-icing methods

  • Proper way to calibrate equipment

  • Understand rates of materials

  • Learn new maintenance methods

Attendees will receive a copy of the “Winter Maintenance for Parking Lots and Sidewalks.” An optional test if offered to earn the MPCA Level 1 Smart Salting Certification in winter maintenance. The certified individuals are listed on the MPCA website.

Smart Salting Level 1 - Training For Roads

This workshop teaches city, county, township, and state snowplow drivers to integrate science with practical winter maintenance while minimizing impacts on the environment.

This training offers information about best practices for managing snow and ice on roadways:

  • How to gauge weather conditions

  • Best practices for storing materials

  • Proper application rates

  • Equipment calibration

  • De-icing and anti-icing methods

  • New maintenance methods

  • Understanding environmental effects

Attendees will receive a copy of the “Minnesota Snow and Ice Control Field Handbook.” An optional test is offered to earn MPCA Level 1 Smart Salting Certification. The certified individuals are listed on the MPCA website.
